Funky, measuring tape Ora watch

Sometimes, watches look really interesting. So many of the designs just make you want to grab it then and there. This is a conceptual watch that may give you mixed thoughts. It is a pretty funky looking one and has a measuring-tape look-alike thing as its dial. Termed as the Ora watch, this one tells time on a series of three crisscrossed analog time strips. The top one gives time in minutes, overlapping a smaller band with the hours, and a narrow third belt with the current day of the week. The mechanism seems very complicated and quite mind baffling. It is designed by Alexandros Stasinopoulos.

Japan brings to life the Giant Robot with orange shoes

We love building huge things as long as they look good, are useful and totally harmless. Now if that were the case, what made the Tetsujin such a lovable freak. Well, it’s a robot that’s taking everyone by storm. Firstly, because of it’s humungous size and secondly because it has some really annoying, bright colors in patches. I mean, if you make something with so much energy, time and money spent, why not make it bold? It’s got a total ‘Power Rangers’ like pose to start off with. The Tetsujin life-sized robot will soon make its mark among young minds of Japanese youngsters. Well, let’s hope he’s earth-quake aware, else his frantic movements will surely ‘bring down the house’, literally

Apple iPad tablet will work on the iPhone OS

Apple’s iPad was coming a long way but hey, here’s something that’s giving the fans-of-the-forbidden-geek-fruit new hope. Well, we did finally not waste our time by rumoring around with the size and announcement of the tablet, though the latter came even earlier than we projected. To be more specific, the ‘real’ iPad will sport a 10.7 inch touch screen display and will run on the iPhone OS! There’s also word that it will have both, 3G and non-3G versions. That’s surely cool. We can expect the iPad announcement by January 19th 2010. The release date is most likely to be in the middle of the year. So long, so bad.

BlueWatchDog anti-theft device with Bluetooth

The Bluetooth technology is an excellent technology that has been made because it has many uses you might now even think of. For example, the BlueWatchDog is a personal anti-theft device and this device is Bluetooth enabled. This device will alert you on your cell phone when someone is trying to steal your stuff like you wallet and it goes beyond your specific radius. The alarm will sound in an ear piercing shriek that hopefully will make the thief scared and drop the item he has taken but just cross your fingers it is your wallet and not an expensive device. It will cost you GBP 43.47 (US$ 70).

Panoramic Holiday Projector for your home

There was this movie with Joe Pesci where he had this odd competition with his neighbor in showing who does things better. In that he had made his home like a crazy carnival with all sorts of paraphernalia. The one thing that stood out was the projector works on it. You can also now do it with the Panoramic Holiday Projector to make your home into a holiday fun movie screen. You can choose one of 10 designs including hearts, shamrocks, Jack o’ Lanterns or snowflakes and light it up from a range of 10 metres. You can choose any festival or occasion you wish to. You can buy this one for $79.95 from Brookstone.

Belkin’s new Conserve Surge with a timer

This is a fun and efficient surge protector... with a timer. Belkin’s new Conserve Surge with Timer turns out 50 per cent of office power used up by devices on standby mode. This system will switch off lights at the office during the night when the office is empty hence saving a lot of energy and money. There are two outlets which will always be on so that you don’t lose any work on your desktop. It also comes with an on/off switch that lets you turn off those 6 sockets before the timer goes into action. You can buy this new version for $35.

Ninja Kunai USB Drive

For those of you that think ninjas are the ultimate warriors, here’s a USB drive to show off your point of view. Although this drive isn’t exactly something you should probably slip past airport security, it would be a cool drive to keep at home. You can about guarantee that you’ll end up paying a lot more just to get your ninja themed USB drive, but I could see it being worth it for a few.

It’s not for everyone, but even for those that can’t afford it. You have to admit if you had the cash, you’d probably consider buying it. The drive will only hold a whopping 2GB of your data on it, which really isn’t much. Especially when you consider how much cash you’ll end up forking out for this. It’s definitely a novelty drive and an expensive one at that. You’ll end up paying ¥ 11,500.00 or about $126 from Geek Stuff 4U.

Music Chocolate Ottoman has built-in speakers

This musical ottoman is definitely designed for those with money to burn. Something as pretty as this with incorporated technology never goes for cheap. However, for those that can afford furniture like this, it means you don’t have to have speakers lying out that are quite obviously speakers. With this it makes things a lot more subtle. Of course it will be quite a bit more obvious when your iPod is plugged into it and sitting on top of the ottoman.

This Music Chocolate Ottoman was designed by Michi Jjung, which of course means it is just a design. Which is bad news for those that were more than willing to fork out the extra cash for this upholstered ottoman. However, sometimes you can contact the designer to find out if you can get your hands on one, despite that these aren’t posted online for sale. If you can manage to get one, you’ll always have a speaker nearby when you’re lounging to plug your MP3 player into.

Battery Wizard magically recharges disposables

The Battery Wizard promises it can recharge even disposable batteries.

Although initially more expensive, the advantage of rechargeable batteries has always been that they cut down on buying more batteries and they cut down on depleted batteries clogging our landfills. And as anyone who has tried it can testify, trying to recharge a disposable battery usually ends up in a chemical spewing explosion. But the Battery Wizard claims it has overcome all those obstacles.

The Battery Wizard claims that in addition to rechargable batteries, it can recharge standard alkaline, NiCad and NiMH disposable batteries up to 10 times so long as they aren’t completely depleted. There’s really not much that can be done with a dead battery, but with its trickle charge set up, the Wizard can easily “top off” existing disposable batteries up to 10 times before tossing them in the landfill. And with it’s automatic cut off function, the batteries top off and shut down so that they don’t’ overheat and explode.

The result is obvious … fewer batteries bought, fewer batteries disposed of, fewer batteries in our landfill. And without the initial cost of a rechargeable battery, could it be that the best of both worlds has finally arrived?

LED Jumper Cables look a touch alien

Most of us have had the joy of dealing with a dead battery in our car and somehow it always seems to happen under the worst of conditions. You know the ones, dark and either snowing or raining. It being dark is definitely a requirement though. Well with these jumper cables you won’t have quite so much difficulty managing to charge your battery in the dark. These cables might look a touch alien, but they’ll still do the trick.

You’ll never have to worry about getting the colors confused and therefore causing a slightly damaging mistake. Every single one of the clamps has a light built into it. These high-intensity LED lights will kick on whenever you squeeze the clamps open. It’s probably easier than trying to hold a flashlight in your mouth, while your hands are busy trying to position the cables. The lights are battery powered and the button-cell batteries are actually included. You can purchase the 16” cables for $34.95 from Herrington.

The G150 Kodak Keychains makes your pictures portable

No longer do mothers carry around a small booklet showing off their children. Now, you can carry around a digital keychain that can hold far more than that little booklet ever could. This keychain will allow for you to keep photos of your loved ones close to you, without weighing you down too much. This would be especially great for those that travel frequently and want something to flip through when they’re stuck in a hotel away from the ones they love.

One thing with this is that it’s actually meant to be used as a keychain. However, I know for me at least, something that large on my keys would annoy me a little. Then again there are a great deal of people that load down their keys with various keychains, so for them this won’t be an issue. The screen itself on this is 1.5 inches, although they don’t say what the keychain as a whole measures. The frame will hold over 100 photos in the built-in memory and when fully charged can function for up to 2 hours. You can purchase the Kodak Keychain for $29.99.

iTwin allows for easy file-sharing

What you see in the picture here is the iTwin. It isn’t a thumb drive with two USB connections, but a way of transferring your files from one computer to another.

Sure, you could just set up a mainframe network, send a file as an attachment, or just put the file you want on a thumb drive and plug it into another computer. Yes, there are a lot of ways to do file transfers from one computer to the other, but iTwin makes the process a lot easier.

Here’s what you do. The iTwin comes apart into two equal parts. You stick one USB thumb into one part, then the other thumb into another computer. From there, you can drag and drop files from one computer, and it will automatically appear on the other computer.

Yes, the iTwins are connected wirelessly via the Internet, just like the bond between two twins. At least the ones that are psychic.

The creators of the iTwin hope to have this out on the market sometime early next year for a price of $99. You might think that is a lot to spend for this file-sharing device, but you should ask yourself how much you would spend to make your life easier.

Petcare Robot: Play with your pet from a distance

The first time I saw this picture, I thought someone took an alien head and mounted it on the body of a UFO. In reality, this is the PetCare robot, a mobile webcam that allows you to monitor your pet from a distance.

I know when I leave my dog alone for a while, I would feel better if he was occupied by playing with this toy rather than chewing up my garbage. This is assuming that I have nothing better to do on my vacation than operate this toy on the Internet.

Not only is this camera/toy mobile by remote control through the Internet, but the ball that it bears is also remote control as well. In fact, the ball can be charged in the mobile camera itself. I’m not certain how the robot can be charged, or if it can be charged from a distance.

This device is fitted with infrared lenses so that you can see your pet in the dark. The lenses also have covers so your pet’s drool won’t damage the electric peepers. The only question I have is: what happens when your pet tips it over?

Well, the PetCare robot is only a concept for now, but personally, it really is a step in the right direction for pet care from a distance.

Elecom Soap Mouse won’t clean hands

When one hears of a soap mouse, most would just figure it’s some geeky mouse shaped soap. After all, there have been a few different mouse shaped soap bars that have hit the market. Well this mouse is the exception to the rest, it’s a mouse made to resemble soap. You might be wondering why someone would create a mouse that looks like soap and it’s a valid question. Although, finding out just where this mouse is being sold, pretty much explains everything.

Yes, this is another strange product straight out of Japan. To be a touch more specific, these are coming from Japan’s Elecom. This USB mouse won’t make your computer gadgets sanitary, but it does function just like any other normal mouse. It appears the design is actually pretty new, so there isn’t a whole lot of purchase information out there. Even if there was pricing info on it though, it’d be difficult to get your hands on if you’re living outside of Japan.

LED Neon Sphere Bottle Stoppers

If you’re planning on having a party, then here’s a little extra mood lighting for the event. It’s a little more subtle than strings upon strings of lights, but it’s not quite what many would call classy. They would be neat to have though if you had a table of bottles lined up that needed bottle stoppers. They’ll be especially great for those of you with a thing for bright neon lights, since these do at least mimic neon lighting.

The bottle stoppers are battery powered and although they don’t actually say what type of batteries are needed, the batteries are included upon purchasing these little lights. Each one of these comes in a bundle of three with three different colors. You don’t actually get to choose a set of all the same color. The colors you’ll get are red, blue and green. Although, frankly the red does look a touch on the pink side of things. You can purchase the set of 3 for $19.99 from Perpetual Kid.

Telekinetic Obstacle Course

Show the world that you literally use your brain with the Telekinetic Obstacle Course, where it requires one to focus brain waves to maneuver a ball through the obstacle course right in front of you. Pretty unnerving, right? Now you get a semblance of how telekinesis feels like, making you wonder just how infinitely more powerful fictional mutants like Psylocke or Jean Grey handle this experience.

A headband and two earlobe clips measure theta wave activity produced by your brain (similar to EEG monitoring technology used by medical professionals). As you relax and concentrate, the headband sends a wireless signal (based on your mental commands) to the game’s air fan, which increases or decreases its speed, suspending or lowering a foam ball; a knob enables you to turn the gameboard in order to move the ball through one of eight obstacles, including hoops, teeter-totters, baskets, or chutes. The obstacles may be interchanged; includes nine total obstacles.

Powered by a quartet of C batteries and a trio of AAA batteries, the Telekinetic Obstacle Course would make for a nice present this Christmas for $99.95.

Bluetooth Concept turns your finger phone into reality

For those of you who are sick of the convenience of Bluetooth earpieces and want to live your dream of talking to your fingers like pretend phone from your childhood should look into this concept device.

Designed by BCK, a team from Argentina, its a very simple concept. The user talks to the hand using the yellow ring that fits halfway down the little finger, and then listens with the pink ring on the thumb. (Why is the thumb look like its been drawn on the picture?)

This is one concept that probably won’t catch on, ever. Unless you can make a display to put on the palm. Maybe there is some alternate reality where this technology came into fruition. Enjoy this poem after the jump.

One ring to hear your calls,
One ring to talk in,
Two rings to take your calls,
and with the Bluetooth bind them.

Okay, it didn’t really rhyme, but somehow I couldn’t get The Lord of the Rings out of my head when I saw this device. In the end, though, I decree this device as “silly”.

Of course, I never equated The Lord of the Rings with anything silly, even though there is a scene where a dwarf, and elf, and Viggo Mortensen are running across the plains in really fruity costumes.

Well, you never know what’s going to be a hit and what will be a dud.

CamCaddy Universal Camera Charger

For those of you in larger families, there’s not always just one camera for the household. It being just me within mine, even I have two different types of cameras. Which makes charging them up a little obnoxious. Personally, I’m getting tired of trying to remember which cord goes with which camera. Well instead of putting yourself through all of that nonsense, you could pick up this universal camera charger that not only simplifies your life but is capable of charging your camera in an eco-friendly manner.

The charger can function with 85% of the block camera batteries. If you’re concerned that it won’t work with your cameras there is an online tool they offer to allow you to check things out before you purchase the universal charger. It’s compatible with both Solar Technology’s FreeLoader and FreeLoader Pro solar gadget chargers. The CamCaddy can also be hooked up to your car socket or your PC or laptop. For those of you that do a bit of traveling in both the US and the UK you’ll be happy to know that it comes with an adaptor for both US and European outlets. You can purchase the gadget for £24.99 or about $41.

Baseball Cap Camera with Digital VCR/Monitor

A private investigator's line of work is not exactly the easiest one, and that's why quite a few people are really capable of carrying it out successfully. As we know, private investigators always have some pretty nifty gadgets at hand (some of them worthy of a James Bond flick), and a very interesting device from this family is the one you're going to read about as follows, namely the Baseball Cap Camera with Digital VCR/Monitor presented by Spycatcher of Knightsbridge.

Although the device looks exactly like a normal clothing accessory, this little hat includes a CCTV camera and a microphone, capable of broadcasting a continuous audio/video stream towards an external surveillance monitor that also comes with a recording system (SD cards only), so that the possible “amateur” or professional detectives will be able to obtain some hard evidence regarding their targets.

Since this surveillance system comprises two different devices, we'll tackle each of them as follows. Thus, the camera module has been fitted with a 0.25-inch interline CCD sensor, capable of attaining a maximum recording resolution of around 768x492 pixels (NTSC)/768x582 pixels (PAL). The camera's minimum illumination is of 0.2 Lux of F1.2 and it has been equipped with an electronic shutter 1/60 (1/50) – 1/120,000, as well as with an microphone, featuring a sensitivity level of around 59dB +/- 3dB. Additionally, the device also sports a 4.3-mm lens and an 80% viewing angle.

On the other hand, the recorder features a 2.4-inch TFT LCD display, which supports both NTSC/PAL inputs, as well as Auto/Manual/ Motion detection/Scheduled video recording modes. And since we're on the subject of video recording, it's also important to mention the fact that the device can record video clips at a 720 x 480 pixels resolution and at up to 30 FPS. The recorder automatically adds a time stamp to the video feed, and users can also transfer the recoded video clips to a computer via an USB 2.0 interface, in a fast and quite easy manner.

Pretty much as expected, such a specialized device does come at a price to match, since the Baseball Cap Camera with Digital VCR/Monitor sells for an estimate price of around 1,300 US dollars, a lot more than junior detectives or wannabes will ever be able to afford.

Spy Video Car

Remember all those movies featuring spy kids or simply way-too-curious toddlers who snooped around by using a remote controlled car with a video camera mounted onto it? And remember how you wished you had one of your own (at least yours-truly did)? Well, even if we're all grown up now, that fascination is still resident somewhere deep inside, and that's why the gadget I'll present today is the Spy Video Car brought by WildPlanet.

This real spy toy is quite unique, featuring not only a completely wireless control and viewing system, but also an infrared camera, which allows it to be used even in the darkest nights. Moreover, in order to assure the complete “secrecy” of what is being filmed, the control system sports a single LCD lens attached to the user's headset, thus assuring the unique and single access to the video feed broadcast by the car's camera.

The Spy Video Car has a range of up to 23 meters, so it can be used for spying from a safe distance, and works with 12 AA batteries (quite a lot, but after all, the power requirements are high). The toy will be available in the holiday season for around 140 dollars, and could represent a very interesting gift for any kid (but not only), although special care is required, as the Spy Video Car could also be used for some pretty nasty purposes.

SmartHome Portable Lie Detector

Lie detectors are some of the most interesting (and useful) devices ever developed, although the results generated by these devices are very often quite controversial. So, such a device, which has also been made quite portable, could be used for in countless situations, from interviews with possible future employees, to testing your spouse.

Two of the most popular stress-detection techniques (the Psychological Stress Evaluator (PSE) and the Voice Stress Analyzer (VSA)) have been considered in the design of this device, as it is a well-known fact that lying is generally associated with an increased level of stress. It is also quite user-friendly, because all the user has to do is turn it on, the readings being then displayed by an LED band so that the results can be measured and analyzed through a bar graph comparator.

The built-in "result indicator" provides an instant display of truthfulness. In addition to the continuous measurement of a person's speech pattern, the Truth Detector analyzes its own data to give you cumulative results.

According to the manufacturers' statements, the company Laguna, testing can be done from conversations on the radio, television, and even tape recordings. But there's no such device that can be considered completely flawless, and the manufacturers admit this situation. Moreover, they even recommend the use of the device in an area where no background noise is present, as it can affect the readings' accuracy.

Light Bulb Hidden Camera With Night Vision

Do you want to check on somebody's movements (read spy) and you need a video camera that's very well disguised? Well, even if the above mentioned activity is not at all encouraged, one of the best solutions to achieve the above requirements is the Light Bulb Hidden Camera With Night Vision presented by the people from Spyville.

Thus, this very special camera sport some pretty interesting features, among which some of the most important are the facts that it can be installed (and powered) exactly like a normal light bulb, directly from the lighting system, as well as the fact that it is quite weatherproof, thus being quite fit to be used on the outside.

The surveillance camera disguised as a light bulb comes with a built-in CCD black and white sensor, as well as with its own digital signal processor, which means that users will be able to view the capture images directly on their TVs, at very good quality and without any interventions from a computer. Furthermore, it's important to mention that the device offers a rather OK field of view (80 degrees) and that, unfortunately, it only works in th NTSC system.

The camera also allows users to enjoy infrared-enhanced night vision, as it comes packed with no less than 6 IR LEDs. Additionally, for easier operation, it features an IRFS power line carrier transmission system (no additional wires or antennas required).

The Light Bulb Hidden Camera With Night Vision from Spyville sells online for an estimate 170 US dollars, which is not that bad a price for a device that will allow users to setup their own covert surveillance operations.

380TLV Water Proof Surveillance Camera

Waterproof surveillance cameras have become a must for those people who want to permanently keep an eye out on their entire property, not only their homes. And that's exactly the type of product you'll read about, namely the Water-Tight 380TVL Color Bullet Camera from Impact a device that is safe for both indoor an outdoor use and also very easy to hook up and control.

his weather-proof color bullet camera has a built-in 3.6mm lens and a quarter-inch CCD Sony processor that provides 380 TV lines of resolution. Its digital signal processor system chip-set allows for image control, and the Water-Tight 380TVL Color Bullet Camera can be mounted on your wall or ceiling with the included mounting bracket.

The device offers its users a maximum resolution of 510 x 492 pixels (NTSC) or 500 x 582 pixels (PAL) and also features an automatic electronic shutter (NTSC: 1/60s~1/100,000s, PAL: 1/50s~1/110,000s). Moreover, the camera sports an auto gain control system, supports color temperatures ranging between 2500K~9500K, has a 0.45 gamma level, as well as a S/N ratio above 48 dB.

Furthermore, the device comes equipped with a f 3.6mm / F2.0 lens (optional: f 6.0 / 8.0 / 12mm), sports an internal, negative sync synchronous system and has been fitted with just a BCN connector for hooking it up to a surveillance system.

The device sells for around 120 US dollars, which is a relatively OK price to pay for this thing, although the fact that it doesn't support night recording might change some user's minds regarding its actual level of utility.

Black and White Recon DVR Camera in a Decorative Clock

This StealthCam was carefully hidden behind a contemporary clock facade, but still manages to use the latest stealth recording technology in a single surveillance device. Actually, the developers of the product presented by BrickHouse Security have eliminated the requirements of additional recording equipment.

The surveillance kit includes a motion detection sensor, as well as time and date stamp for a precise analysis of the content. And speaking about the content, it's important to note that the StealthCam records video at 30fps, in MPEG-4 format and even sports various recording modes, as for example Manual / Motion Activation/ External Input Signal. Unfortunately, though, the video resolution is far from fantastic, namely somewhere under 320x240 pixels.

Another very interesting thing worth mentioning about this particular covert recording system is that it doesn't require any additional equipment. The StealthCam uses an SD card as a recording media, which makes it extremely easy for the users to playback the recorded video (at 1x, 2x, 4x speeds) on just about any computer equipped with a memory card reader. However, the device also sports a full-screen television output, for those situations where a more “in-depth” analysis of the video feed is required.

And if you were wondering just how much video this thing can record, you should know that, when using an 4 GB SD card (the maximum capacity supported), the device can record up to 7 hours of video feed, which is just about enough for any surveillance operation.

Sporting a reasonable size of 8.75 x 7.4 x 3.5 inches, the cam can be placed on any table without offering any clue about it's real functionality. So, from now on you can finally breath easily when hiring a nanny for your toddler, especially since this thing can be purchased for just around 450 bucks a pop.

Personal Cell Phone Signal Blocker Device

Although cell phones are probably the most useful communications devices ever developed (until now, that is), they do tend to get a little bit on a person's nerves, especially when they are outfitted with some very obnoxious ringtones. And that's exactly the reason why the people over at DealExtreme have come up with the Personal Cell Phone Signal Blocker Device back in August 2007, as this rather unusual product can block the cell phone signal on a 0.5 – 12 meter area around it.

According to the vendors, the jammer uses super-high frequency and mini power interference technology in order to block the GSM signals by interrupting the downlink connections without affecting in any way the handhelds.

It would seem that this device is quite effective, since it can block CDMA/GSM 869-960 Mhz networks, 2110-2170 Mhz 3G networks and 1805-1920 MHz DCS/PHS networks. The “circle of no-communication” created around the device has a variable radius, depending on the type of carrier network and other factors, but, nevertheless, it extends to a minimum radius of around 0.5 meters.

Moreover, the device is not dangerous for the human body (maximum level of emitted EM radiation is less than -10dBm), and requires relatively little power in order to operate, since a full-charge of the built-in 1500mAh battery lasts for up to 3 - 4 hours of continuous use. It's encased in a solid, shockproof metal casing and it's also extremely portable, as it measures around 4.09 inches x 1.85 inches x 0.71 inches (10.4 cm x 4.7 cm x 1.80 cm), at a weight of around 6 ounces (170 grams).

The device presented by DealExtreme retails for around 50 US dollars, which is a rather fair price to pay for such a device, despite the fact that this thing is of Chinese origins, so its efficiency is not exactly guaranteed.
